ARCHIVE OF PATHOLOGICAL SLIDES

Archive of Pathologic Slides is made up of 6 embroided and felted compositions on various materials and sizes, at first completely abstract, but in fact representations of disease infected human tissue which are juxtaposed with 3 glass plates, enlarged histological slides with patient information (in this case unknown). The idea of the work comes from the initial reading of Foucault’s “About other spaces” and the processes of archiving and it further evolves into reflection about abjection, illness, bioengineering, biopolitics and the relation of society, science and art according to the same. In choosing the technique and motifs taken from medical documentation (microscopic image of ill human tissue) lies the main source of abjection which raises the questions of relationship between the individual and society towards illness and the ill person. Compositions on soft materials, neutral tones, textural and delicate are in complete contrast with cold, tinted and archived medical reports (the slides). Further, the work questions the relationship of art and science, how new scientific practises and biopolitics change the practises in art, opening new ethical question which art addresses. In the end this work, through traditional techniques and materials deals with a contemporary topic of development of science, the relationship of art and science, , the change of society's relationship to the sick body by the development of biopolitical practices. With such attributes, the work belongs to a group of works that all through different practices handle the new art position in the world, a practice that constantly redefines what is "natural", the boundary between the possible and the impossible, the question of life and death, and ultimately asks about the ethics of the same.
